Solution level Auto build increment Add-In

AutoBuildIncrement's updated version's (1.11) details and download is available from details page (source also available on the same page).

You can also directly download the visual studio installer via this link: AutoBuildIncrement.vsi (15.20 kb), if you know what is the add-in all about.

Hi,

I've just installed this add-in in VS2008 and VS2005 (had to copy the addin from VS2008 to VS2005...)

However, in VS2008 in my solution, the addin does not seem to work.
Could this have something to do with using source control ?? (Team Foundation Server, to be exact) and thus the assembly.cs being read-only ??

Ya. It might be the issue. You can see the build output. The error will be listed there in front of the Solution name at the very beginning of the build output window.

Looks like that is indeed the problem. When checked out with Check Out-lock, the file can be accessed. Maybe nice for a feature-request? To check if there is Source Control and if so, check out the AssemblyInfo.cs-file(s)?

Also, I have a project in which I use Solution-folders to group related Projects (when you right-click on a solution in the Solution Explorer, you get that option under Add).
In this project/solution, I cannot use AutoIncrement. Does nothing whatsoever. I cannot even call up the settings...

I made the changes for Solution Folders and uploaded the source and add-in for the same, but I could not resolve the Source control issue yet. Will do it soon.

Hmmm, solution folders still throw the app off.
I have a solution with several Solution Folders in Visual Studio 2008.
I cannot even get the settings-dialog to show! (just won't show up)

Also, the assemblyinfo is not updated.

I think the issue can be addressed through a reinstall. Just delete all instances of utoBuildIncrement.dll and AutoBuildIncrement.Addin from your system and reinstall. Check if the addin is enabled or not. It will work. If still does not work than try a new project and solution.

Hello. I try to use that Add-In for VS 2005, but this is not working. When I try to install ".vsi" I have exception "One or more content items contained within the .vscontent..." How I can resolve that?

I've reinstalled, and also have a new solution with solution-folders, but still the problem occurs that the settings-dialog won't show.

Hi,

Is your add-in working yet? My observations are:
- Installs in VS2008, but config dialog never appears
- Doesn't install in VS2005, but after manually copying the files the config dialg does appear

I don't know if the incrementing ever works, since I don't have any projects I want to build in 2005, and as mentioned above nothing happens in VS2008. Also, I usually work under source control so it would be good to have the check-out feature working. (I use VB, not C# by the way.)

I am sorry that I could not reply to any queries/emails as because of some personal issues I had to move out of station for a prolonged period.

Hey I have a question I got it working for VS2005 (vb) with a few minor difficulties (see below) and it works fine but can you give me instructions on how to add it to an existing solution or can you add something that would give me the option to do that automatically?

Here was the problem, I tried to install it for 2005 (dont' have 2008) and the vsi file gives me an error...

One or more content items contained within the .vscontentfile cannot be installed because the correct version of the content installer component cannot be found.

Contact the author of the content file for information about which installer and versions are required.

Like I said I got it working but it would be nice if you documented the proceedure or just fixed the problem whatever it is.

Minor addition... after that error meddage I get another one that says:

The .vsi or .vscontent file does not contain any installable content, or the file contains errors.
